Alex and Paul Ed Dixon Food Design wedding ceremony confetti

Alex + Paul

A lesson for all wedding guests – ham thieves will be caught!

When the sun comes up the day after a spectacularly fun wedding, hilarious stories of antics from the night before surface as quickly as the cocktails went down. We had the pleasure of catering and styling a beautiful wedding with one such tale.

Author Alex Miles (nee Lee) married her husband Paul in the gardens of Melbourne’s King’s Domain, followed by a sumptuous banquet reception at the Fitzroy Town Hall. Along with a sticky date pudding bar and a piñata cake made by the grooms’ mum, the jewel in the food crown was a giant glazed ham that took centre stage on a grazing table.

Guests nibbled on the ham all night until all of a sudden, it disappeared. No one knew how it happened or who was the culprit, but as soon as Alex and Paul were on their honeymoon, Alex’s brother Andy (who happens to be one half of comedy duo Hamish & Andy) set out to uncover the ‘hamburgular’ on national radio (listen to one of the hilarious Hamish & Andy clips). It’s safe to say that when discovered, their ham-enthusiast, sticky-fingered friend was quite apologetic.

While some (more pedantic) brides would have a mini meltdown at the prospect of stolen catering, Alex likes to keep things in healthy perspective. She has actually written a book of wedding advice, ‘Sixty Secrets for a Happy Bride’, curating tips on relationships, budget, styling and memories to the ceremony, reception and life beyond. The book is a perfect treat to help any bride stay balanced, get organised and most importantly, be excited in the lead-up to getting hitched. You can buy the book from David Jones, Dymocks, Readings, some local book stores or buy it online.

To celebrate the release of the book, we’re giving away 3 copies, each also arriving with an EDFD brownie box! Head over to our Instagram for your chance to win.

Competition will finish Tuesday May 17, 2016.
